Heading towards Bridlington on the A165 from Blue
Dolphin your first point of interest is Filey.
FILEY
Filey is
a small but bustling seaside town which dates from the Edwardian period, the
shops go around in a square on both sides of the rd so just keep turning right,
Filey boasts approx 5 miles of blue flag award
winning sandy beach protected at one end by the rocky grandeur of Filey Brig.

Brig Nature Trail is a superb walk for all the family as the cliffs hold a
variety of birds & wildlife, the children will enjoy the rock pools that
allow them to come close with nature & its sea creatures

offers a numerous amount of activities these include Golf, Surfing, Sea
Fishing, Yachting, Walking & Bird Watching to name but a few.
There are plenty of attractions to keep you busy the Evron centre which overlooks the bay, offers a tourist
information & visitor centre plus a theatre, musical events, arts &
crafts, conferences, dancing & sports.

Museum is a grade 11 listed building erected in 1696 & has 8 rooms that
exhibit photographs, artefacts & general items related to Filey both past & present.

Remember to visit Filey Damms nature reserve which is the last remaining freshwater
marsh to be found anywhere in the region, the marsh covers approx 6 hectares
& hold botanical specimens along with a number of amphibian, mammals &
insect species.

As above to compliment the heritage of Filey there are many award winning gardens to stroll
through especially along the elegant Crescent where you can relax & listen
to the brass band in the summer months that will be frequenting the newly built
grandstand.
BEMPTON
Bempton approx 4 miles from Filey of the A165.
Bempton’s
spectacular white cliffs are over 400ft high & hold the record of the
highest sea cliffs on the east coast of Britain, they are home to over a
quarter of a million sea birds & the RSPB nature reserve, just a short walk
from the purposely built visitors centre are specially erected cliff top
viewpoints were you can see kittiwakes, gannets & guillemots amongst other
species in abundance & the more than occasional coloured puffins.
Along the cliff top hedgerows you will find rarer
specimens such as

Flamborough
offers beautiful cliff top views at Breil & Flamborough Head, a clean little used beach, a castle

wooden build to today with it’s Norman chancel arch & off coarse the
original & new lighthouses.

The Bayle museum is a 2
story 12th century stone built gatehouse of the Augustinian priory.
Bridlington Priory was founded in 1120 for the Augustian cannons by Walter De Gant.
Bridlington Spa & gardens was opened for the
Victorian tourists in 1896, the 5 acres of grounds included a theatre, concert
hall, bandstand & refreshment rooms & has now been renovated to its
prior grandeur being due to open in the spring of this year 2008.

Marks & Spencer, Woolworth’s, Wilkinson’s, Matalan,
JD Sports & T.K.Max to name but a few.

down the high street you venture the roads of to the right become the old
fashioned cobbled streets with eateries, jewellers & collectables shopping
in abundance.
The vaults with its antique, arts & crafts &
collectable Outlets on the lower ground floor & fish, vegetables, groceries
& meat market on the upper ground floor.
Venture even further down & the shops become more
seaside shops, with chip shops; café’s & souvenir shops, you then find yourself on the long promenade (beach rd).
The main beach rd is lined with souvenir shops,
arcades, fish & chip shops including the famous Winking Willy’s, Pubs,
Café’s, a Cinema & much much more.
The beach has a blue flag rating & is packed,
providing donkey rides & council run activities during the season.

To the north end of the beach there is a harbour with
boats trips of all kinds including fishing, speed boat, cruising & even
trips to see the seals; the harbour also holds a lighthouse & resident
fair.

Scarborough Atlantis is an outdoor water complex with
slides & makes a great day out for all the family, there is also a kiddies

Peasholm Park is spectacular in itself, holding a
world war 2 battle on the lake (battle of the river plate) during the season
(be their early) the island has been rejuvenated in 2007 with the Chinese style
waterfall, there are peddle boats to hire on the lake & a café.
The walk around the lake is breathtakingly beautiful
with the flora & fauna & you can feed both the abundance of wildfowl
& the grey squirrels by hand.
